If I’m a Singaporean, I will be singing “this is home truly” right now. Unlike many travelers the tiny red dot city state Singapore, I lived here for 6 years, so I can be considered a local. To many, Singapore is known for food, cleanliness and efficiency; I, on the other hand, remember a very different list of things about this place. One quirky thingĀ isĀ their annual tradition composing new patriotic national songs to celebrate their independence day. To many outsiders, this may seems like a propaganda act by the government. However, Singaporeans love this practice and many can proudly recite all the songs even after a couple of (really expensive. seriously.) shots. Could you say something is propaganda if it really works? DoubleSpeak yo.

Anyway, here are some shots I took while walking down the fame Orchard Road. Singapore is a city that never stops moving, and you can see from the non-stop crowd and ever-changing cityscape. It has been only 5 years since I left this Lilliputian island, yet I can’t name you half the skyscrappers here. Don’t look at me – my local friends can’t name them either. If you need directions, hail the foreign looking backpackers. They probably are the only ones who have a map and know where they are. Trust me, I was one of them.

This is the first of all backlogged stuff, so bear with me. Even though I lived here a long time ago for a not short time, I don’t know much about the famous places in Singapore. It might be a sin, but I never stepped into Newton Hawker Center and I used to live right next to that. I also have no idea how Chilli crab tastes like, or how Katong Laksa look like, and I heard the well known Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh isn’t even Bak Kut Teh. :P
